Randomized assessments and how to use them
Random assessments allow you to automatically mix and vary the questions each student receives.
Instead of delivering the same set of questions to everyone, the system randomly selects from a pool you define.
This helps prevent question-sharing, improves test fairness, and makes each assessment attempt unique.
In OnlineCourseHost.com, assessment questions for your students are randomly pulled from your question bank, based on the settings you have put into place.
How to use Randomized Assessments
Step 1: Add questions to your question bank
The first step would be to create the questions you need in your question bank and tag them accordingly. Kindly refer to this link for more information: Managing a Question Bank for your Assessments.
Step 2: Create your assessment
Afterward, go to your course platform, click Products => Create New Product => click Exam => Randomized Exam => click Next, and continue the product creation process.

You can also click Edit on any existing product => Add Lesson => and select the Random Assessment option.

Step 3: Select criteria for your questions
After giving your assessment a title and description (this is optional), open the lesson box and click Add Questions.

Here, you will be presented with three criteria to select your questions:
- Number of Questions: This is compulsory, as you need to add the number of questions that your students must answer under the assessment.
- Tags: This is also compulsory, as questions are pulled from the question bank, according to their tags.
Note: If you select more than one tag, the system will only look into and pull questions that have all these tags in them.
For example, if you select three tags here, the system will only consider questions that have all three tags on them, so if a question has only one of the tags, it will not be considered.

- Question Type: This is optional. Here, you can select any of the 11 types of assessment questions to be considered.
Note: If you do not select any question type, all the question types using the selected tag(s) will be considered.
If you select a question type that is not under the tag(s) selected, you will be presented with zero questions for the selection.
When you are done, click Select Questions, and you will be presented with your selection criteria. All the selections made on this screen will be added together as the total number of questions your students will take under this single assessment.

=> To add more questions, click the Add Questions button.
=> To edit your existing selection, click the pencil icon.
=> To delete a selection, click the bin icon.
Step 4: Update your assessment settings
After adding your questions, scroll down to update your assessment settings.
Being a random assessment, questions would differ from one student to another, so you can add a comprehension text to guide your students while taking the assessment.

Afterward, scroll down to Save and Publish your assessment.
More Information:
- For random assessments, each student will be presented with different questions, with some overlap sometimes.
- Based on your settings, each student will be presented with the same question type, number of questions, and questions within a tag, but the question itself will be different.
- Multiple attempts made by one student will show the same questions every time.
- Just like fixed assessments, automatically graded assessments will be graded immediately, while manually graded assessments need your approval in the Review Assessments screen.
