Course Cloning on Onlinecoursehost.com
Course cloning is a powerful feature that allows you to replicate an existing course on your platform. This is especially useful for course creators who wish to reuse course content, streamline updates, or offer variations of a course without starting from scratch.
This article will guide you through the different types of course cloning and how to use this feature effectively. With OnlineCourseHost, there are two types of course cloning available: Read-Only Clone and Synchronized Clone.
To clone a course on your website, kindly login to your platform => click => Courses => Edit Course => by your top right hand-side, click Clone Course => select the type of clone you want => and click Clone Course.
Once you’ve selected the appropriate cloning method, your course will be duplicated, depending on the cloning type.
Read-Only Clone
The Read-Only Clone feature allows you to create a clone of a course where you have full control over most course aspects, except for the lessons themselves. This option is perfect for those who want to maintain consistency across multiple versions of a course but need flexibility in other areas.
Here’s a breakdown of what you can and cannot edit in a Read-Only Clone course:
Editable Elements in Read-Only Cloned Course
- Landing Page: You can customize and edit the cloned course’s landing page to suit your audience or promotional needs.
- Price & Coupons: You can adjust the course price and manage any coupons or discounts associated with the course.
- Messages: Edit the automated messages sent to students throughout the course journey.
- Certificate Settings: You can modify the certification options for course completion.
- Drip Content: Adjust the schedule for when lessons are made available to students.
- Lessons: The core content, structure, and material of the lessons are locked. You cannot make any changes to the lessons within a read-only clone. However, if you update lessons in the original course, those changes will automatically reflect in the cloned version.
Note: To delete a read-only cloned course, you need to edit the course and click the Delete Course button under the Lessons tab.
Synchronized Clone
The Synchronized clone allows creators to replicate their course content in different forms, without having to start from scratch. Any updates or changes made to the original course do not affect the synchronized cloned versions.
Unlike read-only clones, synchronized clones remain dynamic, ensuring that learners always have access to the most up-to-date material.
Within the synchronized clone feature, course creators can modify lessons, the landing page, pricing and coupons, messages, publication, certification, and drip scheduling screens without impacting the original course.
You have the option to conceal all synchronized cloned courses from your course main page. To do this, log into your website, navigate to the Courses menu, and then select Hide Synchronized Clones.
Note: To delete a Synchronized cloned course, you need to delete each lesson and section under the course: How to delete a course.
Key Notes on the two types of Course Cloning
- Published Page Checklist: When you clone a course, the checklist on the published page is already pre-filled. The only manual adjustment required is the course URL, as no two lessons can share the same URL.
- Course Path: You need to set up your course URL to ensure it’s unique for each course, before publishing the course.
- Multiple Cloning: An original course can be cloned multiple times, but you cannot re-clone an already cloned course.
- Draft Courses: Both draft and published courses can be cloned.
- Course Coupons: Course coupons from the original course are not transferred to a cloned course.
- Custom Payment Links: If you add a custom payment button to your course, the payment link is automatically duplicated in the cloned version.
- Drip Schedule: The drip schedule of an original course is not duplicated in the cloned version of the course.
When can I clone a course?
An original course can only be cloned when it is publishable (when all criteria for publishing a course have been fulfilled).
Therefore, if the checklists under the publishing tab for a course is not completed, you will not be able to clone the course.
