FAQs: Difference between Domain and Subdomain

Assume that your home address is your website. People are more likely to find you this way.

Now, your website has different sections, similar to rooms in a home.

As a quick overview, here's how it works:

Domains:

Having a domain is like having a main address for your business. When people visit your website, they type this in.

The domain name of your website, for example, "mywebsite.com," is like the address to your entire home.

Subdomains:

A subdomain is similar to a room in your house. Despite its different name, it is part of your main domain.

Imagine that you have a blog on your website. Having a subdomain like "mywebsite.onlinecoursehost.com" is like having a dedicated room for your blog.

In this case "mywebiste" becomes the subdomain and onlinecoursehost.com is the main domain.

As a matter of fact, there is little difference between a domain and a subdomain.

Subdomains follow the same principles as main domains; the only difference is that they always depend on the main domain otherwise known as a parent domain.
